In addition to our own innovative efforts and programs, Roswold Foundation for Injured Children (RFFIC) proudly supports other local organizations that share in our vision of bettering the lives of injures children and preventing severe injuries. To that end, recent contributions were made to two local charities that benefit injured children and help prevent further injuries in the Kansas City Area. The donations were made to the YMCA’s Challenger Program and Children’s Mercy Hospital’s emergency department.
The YMCA’s Challenger Program began to help give children with special needs the chance to participate in sports and recreational activities in a supportive environment. Through the Challenger Program, special needs children learn important skills that go beyond physical activities; they learn to build friendships and to work as a team in a safe atmosphere suited to their special circumstances. RFFIC shares this vision with the YMCA and donated $1,000 to benefit children in the program who have suffered from brain injuries. The YMCA shares our dedication to better the lives of children challenged with the effects of brain injuries and seeks to provide them with the best future possible.
At RFFIC our focus is also on efforts to the prevent severe injuries in Kansas City children. Each year, more than nine million children will visit the emergency room in this country, and facilities like the Level I Pediatric Trauma at Children’s Mercy Hospital provide the best possible care for injured children. The Level I distinction means that the hospital provides top of the line care in all departments, available 24 hours a day. For a severely injured child, there is simply no better place they can be than an emergency department like the one at Children’s Mercy. Since 1897, Children’s Mercy Hospital has served as a leader in pediatric medicine. Our donation of $1,500 goes to support the hospital’s mission to care for severely injured children.
Last September, we partnered with Shawnee Cycle Plaza to host the first ever Rock & Roll Rider’s Rally, a day-long charity event designed to raise money for children afflicted with brain injuries. Great music from local bands like Mad Libby and the KC Biker Band, combined with day long fun and fantastic food, was met with overwhelming support from people from right here in the Kansas City area.
Our continuing mission of RFFIC is reflected in the Foundation’s motto: “Building Brighter Futures.” We hope to see many more dollars donated to these worthy organizations, and many more years to partner with people from all over through charity events and other programs that benefit children and their families.
